I've always flushed my engines. I use Amsoils recommended procedure with first installing a new filter. This drains oil by approx one qt. then fill with engine flush. Run 15 min at idle. Drain and throw out 15 min used filter. Then install new filter and fresh new oil of your choice. Looks like the timing cover/front crankshaft seal might be leaking a bit. Its fairly safe to say that the oil pan gasket is also leaking. It looks like at some point in time, someone has been inside the engine, as the red RTV is not supposed to be there. The oil pan gasket on the 4.7 is a steel gasket coated in rubber with a built in windage tray.

The '05 just had an overheating issue, less than 2 weeks ago, the the water pump, t-stat and fan clutch were replaced. No overheat issue since with the 2005.
